Hello~
There are some things that I have to comment on from the feedback that I have been getting from everyone about my skills in both digital and traditional medium. I noticed that I have been getting more positive views on my digital pieces than my traditional pieces, and it concerns me. For the last several years, I have been struggling a lot with my traditional mediums, and I feel that personally I do not have the same amount of ability. I am not sure if it is supposed to be a good thing that I am better off working in the digital media than the traditional, because there are so much pros and cons to each.
(Pros: less mess= save money from supplies, zoom in to smooth out details, more web-related, less screw ups )
(Cons: risk of program crashing= lost hours of works, cost of ink and quality paper, risky move on sketches converted to digital)
Whenever my digital pieces got more attention than my traditional, I wasn't sure whether to feel pleased or insulted. I say this now, since I feel like there is more effort put into the work of traditional pieces than digital. It is not to say that I have anything against digital art, which is not true at all. I love digital illustrations. It is just like what my one of my teachers back at MassArt said: "strong sketches truly does make the piece in digital illustration." Thing is, I am just not sure what are the levels of difficulty in digital illustration, since it varies to every artist's preferences.
So, what am I trying to say here? I am simply stating my opinion on why I am a little too nervous to work more in my digital medium than my traditional. I just feel displeased that my skills in traditional media seems weak compared to the digital media.
You are welcome to state your opinions on your views of digital art vs. traditional art. This type of debate has been existing for years now and I would love to hear your feedbacks :)
