Taking baby steps

Greetings:

Grad school classes are starting out great, and I have more to experience tomorrow in less than 9 hours. :) But alas, more works are here, and it is not just school! I have finally been able to do a painting after 4-5 months of not picking up my brush. But let me explain, it was not for school. It was for my own enjoyment, and I must say that it was nearly a first for me since graduation.

(scanned in and up close..the roof is not as dark as it appears here)

(Medium: spray paint and gouache on tan padded envelope)

This work was all an accident and it was unplanned. My cousin left her belongings in my house after her visit, so I had to send them back to her. She is in CA. I was trying to spray paint over a padded tan envelope that was previously used, and it did not successfully covered the words on it. I used a bright blue color, and it gave me an idea when I looked at the texture and the shade. Pixar's Up was my cousin's favorite movie. She found out my failure to hide this now lmao. I am tired ok?!?!?!?!!!!!!! I decided to paint the house, because I have always loved the playfulness of the colors. After a quick sketch and about 5-6 hours of painting, It was about close to the 2D version of the house. There is some debating right now if I should paint her favorite character (Dug) in it, but I'll see how tonight goes. Now I must figure out how to protect the image from some damage during the delivery.

(reference...problem is the original picture is already locked on the other site, so I am using this one for now)

(not so great picture of the sketch)

(how it actually looks zoomed out)

Obviously this is a copyrighted work of Disney and Pixar (Let me emphasize this: PLEASE DO NOT SUE ME... I AM BROKE!). I only did this purely as a fanwork, just for fun, and as a gift for my cousin.

My next work is the choice to pick from these two lovely ladies:

Anna Mae Wong or Anita Berber (either subject are interpreted portraits for my close friend's bday gift). I want to do either stencil or colorful painting, like the one of Anita Berber in red.

(The Dancer by Otto Dix)

Alas, I wish I can get to the process of creating my digital works and my redone logo quicker...I feel bad for using someone else's background image on this blog!
